Retail Relate, now RelatED was established in 2010 by veteran retailer and gifted trainer Leigh Blochlinger, who wanted apply her passion for training and development to young aspirant South Africans – particularly those in the rural areas.
Joined by experienced educator Derick Gideons, the two identified a need for service expertise and formal support to the retail and aligned industries. While numerous other retail programmes offered theoretical input, the opportunity for the independent retailer to gain practical expertise combined with the academic theory, as offered by Retail Relate, was believed to be unique in the industry.
Backed by full accreditation from the Wholesale and Retail SETA (accreditation number 426), Retail Relate coaches and refreshes the employee in best business practices from around the world and also works to ensure the sharing of best practices with aligned industries. Additionally, Retail Relate provides much-needed training to those wishing to find work within business
The numbers trained by this small business speaks to the impact it has had on the retail industry and the country as a whole over the past eight years.
Over 8939 learners have been trained – many of which have been drawn from over 250 rural communities. Over 4249 managers from 41 retail groups have attended the company’s management programmes.
From these humble beginnings the team has grown to over 50 members, and today stands at the threshold of new industry opportunities having secured full accreditation by the Services Seta.
In addition, the business is consulting with a leading education provider to provide tertiary qualifications as well.
